12. But you thought that the Messenger and the believers will never return to their families, and this seemed fine to your hearts; and you harbored evil thoughts, and were uncivilized people. 12Балки сизлар Расул ва мўминлар абадий ўз аҳлларига қайтиб келмаслар, деб гумон қилдингиз ва бу нарса қалбингизда зийнатланди, ёмон гумон қилдингиз ва ёмон қавм бўлдингиз.
14. To God belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whomever He wills, and He punishes whomever He wills. God is Forgiving and Merciful. 14Осмонлару ернинг мулки Аллоҳникидир. Кимни хоҳласа, мағфират қилур ва кимни хоҳласа азоблар. Ва Аллоҳ кечирувчи, раҳмли зотдир.
15. Those who lagged behind will say when you depart to collect the gains, “Let us follow you.” They want to change the Word of God. Say, “You will not follow us; God has said so before.” Then they will say, “But you are jealous of us.” In fact, they understand only a little. 15Ўлжалар томон, уларни олиш учун юрганингизда ортда қолганлар: «Қўйиб беринг, биз ҳам сизга эргашамиз», дерлар. 16. Say to the Desert-Arabs who lagged behind, “You will be called against a people of great might; you will fight them, unless they submit. If you obey, God will give you a fine reward. But if you turn away, as you turned away before, He will punish you with a painful punishment.” 16Ортда қолган аъробийларга: « Катта кучга эга қавмга (қарши) чақирилурсизлар, улар мусулмон бўлгунларича урушурсизлар. Агар итоат қилсангиз, Аллоҳ сизга яхши ажр берур. Ва агар яна аввал қочганингиздек, ортга қочсангиз, аламли азоб ила азоблайдир», деб айт.
18. God was pleased with the believers, when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree. He knew what was in their hearts, and sent down serenity upon them, and rewarded them with an imminent conquest. 18Батаҳқиқ, Аллоҳ мўминлардан дарахт остида сенга байъат қилаётганларида рози бўлди. Бас, уларнинг қалбларидагини билди, уларга сокинликни туширди ва яқин фатҳ ила мукофатлади.
20. God has promised you abundant gains, which you will capture. He has expedited this for you, and has restrained people’s hands from you; that it may be a sign to the believers, and that He may guide you on a straight path. 20Аллоҳ сизларга кўпгина ўлжаларни ваъда қилди. Уларни олсангизлар, бунисини сизга тезлатиб берди, (ўтган воқеа) мўминларга ибрат бўлиши учун ва сизларни сироти мустақиймга бошлаш учун одамларнинг қўлини сиздан тўсди.
22. If those who disbelieve had fought you, they would have turned back and fled, then found neither protector nor helper. 22Агар кофирлар сизлар билан урушганларида орқага қараб қочар эдилар, сўнгра ўзларига валий ҳам, нусрат бергувчи ҳам топмасдилар.
25. It is they who disbelieved, and barred you from the Sacred Mosque, and prevented the offering from reaching its destination. Were it not for faithful men and faithful women, whom you did not know, you were about to hurt them, and became guilty of an unintentional crime. Thus God admits into His mercy whomever He wills. Had they dispersed, We would have punished those who disbelieved among them with a painful penalty. 25Улар куфр келтирган, сизларни Масжидул Ҳаромга, қурбонликларни эса, ушланиб ўз жойига етишидан ман қилган кишилардир, агар сиз билмайдиган мўмин эркаклар ва мўмина аёллар бўлмаганида, сизга билмасдан уларни ҳалок қилганингиз туфайли гуноҳ етиши бўлмаганида эди, ­Аллоҳ кимни хоҳласа, Ўз раҳматига киритиши учун­ агар ажраб турганларида эди, улардан кофирларини аламли азоб ила азоблар эдик.
26. Those who disbelieved filled their hearts with rage—the rage of the days of ignorance. But God sent His serenity down upon His Messenger, and upon the believers, and imposed on them the words of righteousness—of which they were most worthy and deserving. God is aware of everything. 26Эсла! Куфр келтирганлар қалбларида қизиққонликни жоҳилият қизиққонлигини жойлаганларида, Аллоҳ Ўз сокинлигини Пайғамбарига ва мўминларга туширди ва уларга тақво калимасини лозим кўрди, улар ушбуга ҳақли ва аҳл эдилар. Ва Аллоҳ ҳар бир нарсани билувчидир.
27. God has fulfilled His Messenger’s vision in truth: “You will enter the Sacred Mosque, God willing, in security, heads shaven, or hair cut short, not fearing. He knew what you did not know, and has granted besides that an imminent victory.” 27Батаҳқиқ, Аллоҳ Расулининг тушини ҳақ ила тасдиқлади, албатта, Масжидул Ҳаромга, иншоаллоҳ, омонликда, сочларингиз олинган, қисқартирилган ҳолда қўрқмасдан кирасизлар. 28. It is He who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all religions. God suffices as Witness. 28У Ўз Расулини ҳидоят ва ҳақ дин билан, у(дин)ни барча динлардан устун қилиш учун юборган зотдир.
29. Muhammad is the Messenger of God. Those with him are stern against the disbelievers, yet compassionate amongst themselves. You see them kneeling, prostrating, seeking blessings from God and approval. Their marks are on their faces from the effects of prostration. Such is their description in the Torah, and their description in the Gospel: like a plant that sprouts, becomes strong, grows thick, and rests on its stem, impressing the farmers. Through them He enrages the disbelievers. God has promised those among them who believe and do good deeds forgiveness and a great reward. 29Муҳаммад Аллоҳнинг Расулидир. У билан бирга бўлганлар кофирларга шиддатли, ўзаро раҳимдилдирлар. Уларни Аллоҳдан фазл ва розилик тилаб, рукуъ ва сажда қилган ҳолларини кўрурсан. What a pity: the New Year presents which he’d brought back after a cultural evening at the Railway Workers’ Palace were tucked away at home. There were packets of confectionery from Moscow and oranges, the colour of the setting sun, fruit for each child. Several times he sent matchmakers to G’ozi-xo’ja’s house, but the reply was always ‘no’. The pretext was that Oyxon was betrothed to a relative, that their marriage was imminent, after which G’ozi-xo’ja gave a detailed account of his poverty and complained that he was being unjustly punished and that Umar’s actions contradicted the laws of Islam; but, if his Lordship wished to force a marriage, then that was in his power and on his conscience. G’ozi-xo’ja added that his wife hadn’t stopped weeping since the
matchmakers started pestering their household. Then he sent the matchmakers away. And yet…

It was dark when the car came to a sudden halt and Abdulla lost the thread of his thoughts. They must have arrived at the prison. What had he been thinking about? Oh yes, the five bright-red oranges he hadn’t been able to give his children, now left in a house where the lights were out. When he was still very young, he’d written a story called ‘Devils’ Dance’ about something terrible that had happened to his father. Could Abdulla have been taken captive by devils, as his father was?

‘Hold on, Vinokurov,’ said one of the men who had searched Abdulla’s house. ‘Watch you don’t finish him straight away, we’ve only just brought him in! I’ve still got to interrogate the son of a bitch.’ This man, evidently in charge, wished Vinokurov a Happy New Year before he left, presumably to celebrate with his own family.

“Қўй, Винокуров, - деб аралашгандек бўлди уйда тинтув қилганлардан бири, - келиши биланоқ ўлдириб юборма! Ҳали бу ифлосни сўроқ қилишим керак! Whether out of annoyance at having to work on New Year’s eve, or because he’d started the festive drinking early, Vinokurov kicked, cursed and beat Abdulla before throwing him into the solitary cell. Abdulla wanted to strangle his tormenter, but his hands were shackled and he hadn’t the courage to use his teeth. He could only bite his lips till they bled.
